The Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday ruled that a students’ union that was planning a protest in the capital Colombo could go ahead with it, but should not protest on the road.
The Court ruled that the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) could not protest on the road opposite the busy Fort Railway Station.
The Court has said the protest should not obstruct the traffic on the road inconveniencing the public but it could be held in an area opposite the Fort Railway Station without the protestors getting on to the road.
The Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued this directive following an application made by the Fort Police to prevent the protest from taking place saying it would obstruct traffic on the road.
