The National Movement for Consumer Rights’ Protection (NMCRP) yesterday lodged a complaint before the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) against Lanka Sathosa for applying additional conditions on consumers by violating the provisions of the Consumer Authority Act No. 9 of 2003.
According to NMCRP, Sathosa has been restricted consumers from buying goods amounting to more than Rs. 1,000 if they want to purchase two kilos of sugar.
Logging a written complaint before the CAA, NMCRP charged that this condition was a violation of Article No. 16 (b) of Consumer Authority Act.
NMCRP stressed such conditions do not exist in the act.
NMCRP demanded that CAA take immediate legal action against all Lanka Sathosa outlets that were imposing the restriction on consumers.
