The Northern Province Council (NPC) has appointed a four member committee to look into corruption and fraud allegations against the Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran and four other ministers of the Council.Wigneswaran-e1463146532166

The decision to appoint a committee to probe the allegations against the provincial ministers was taken during the Council meeting on the suggestion of the Chief Minister that the Council should debate the charges.

However, a majority of members of the NPC pointed out that the Chief Minister holds several ministerial portfolios and area residents have lodged a number of complaints on financial fraud and requests for bribes in writing and orally by area residents against the Chief Minister and the four ministers.

Accordingly a four member committee led by a retired judge was appointed to look into alleged corruption and bribery charges against the five members of the Provincial Council.
