Colombo Gazette: The police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) questioned former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka recently, regarding the suicide attack at the army headquarters in 2006, in which he was the main target. Sources said that CID officers met Fonseka and recorded a statement from him on the 2006 attack.
At least 11 people were killed in the suicide bomb attack at the Sri Lanka Army headquarters, when the female bomber threw herself at the motorcade of the then Army Chief . The military had blamed the LTTE for the attack and launched air strikes on their positions in the East. That eventually led to an all out war in which the East was first captured and then the North, before the rebels were completely defeated in 2009.
