CICT donates relief aid worth Rs. 2 m to Koslanda victims

Staying true to its commitment of being socially conscious and responsible, Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) donated relief aid valued in excess of Rs. 550,000 consisting of cash and goods to the recent victims of the Koslanda landslide that struck the district of Badulla, affecting many people and leaving an uncounted numbers missing and several hundred homeless.
On 4 November 2014, at an officially handing over ceremony at the Ministry of Disaster Management, CICT’s contribution was accepted by Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera and the officials of the National Disaster Management Centre, in the presence of CICT’s management and other employees representing CICT’s Employee Consultative Committee (ECC). The ECC is an in-house committee set up to facilitate the company’s initiatives involving active employee engagement.
On 5 November 2015, a further donation of Rs. 1.5 million was handed over to S.M. Mohammed, the Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management by CICT, which was contributed by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, of which CICT is a key member and had initiated the request for assistance.
