On 5 May, Chinese Embassy Charge d’affairs Pang Chunxue handed over the keys of three 10-ton water bowsers and one lorry truck (worth more than Rs. 40 million) to President Maithripala Sirisena at Polonnaruwa District Secretariat to support the Sri Lankan Government’s drought relief programs. China and Sri Lanka are traditional friendly countries that always help each other for disaster relief. During the visit of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Chairman Yu Zhengsheng in April 2017, the Chinese Government also declared to donate 90 water bowsers worth Rs. 1 billion to assist Sri Lanka easing the impact of adverse climate conditions.
