Charges will be filed against MP Wimal Weerawansa and seven others for unlawful assembly, the Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The case has been filed for allegedly causing public unrest during the visit of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.
Weerawansa, along with Jayantha Samaraweera, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Roger Seneviratne, Piyasiri Wijeyanayaka and Mohammed Muzammil, were summoned to the Court premises as well. Cinnamon Gardens Police have stated that one of the suspects involved, Chaminda Jayalal, could not be found and a request has been made to postpone the case until he has been located.
