The charge sheet against United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe handed over to the party secretary by a member of the pro-reforms group is to be forwarded to the party’s Advisory Council.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake stated that the complaint against the party leader received by him would be forwarded to the Advisory Council. “I cannot do anything about the letter. I will forward it to the party’s Advisory Council and it would decide on how to act on it,” he said. The Advisory Council and the Working Committee would have to decide, he added.
However, Attanayake said that there were no meetings of either the Advisory Council or the Working Committee scheduled to be held any time soon.
According to him, the document is a complaint against the party leader and not a charge sheet, since party members could not put forward charge sheets.
The document with 20 charges against Wickremasinghe was handed over by UNP Southern Provincial Councilor Maithri Gunaratne last week.
Gunaratne is an active member of the pro-reforms group led by UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa. The pro-reforms group urges the party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to hand over the leadership to deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya. (Colombo Page)
