The SLFP yesterday launched its district representative meetings, which are scheduled to be held around the country starting from Kurunegala, where during one such meeting former President Chandrika Kumaratunga was hooted at by a mob.
This meeting was held at the Kurunegala Maliyadewa Girls’ School Auditorium in the presence of President Maithripala Sirisena. It is reported that the group ridiculed the former President using harsh and indecent language and made quite a scene when Kumaratunga was invited to light the traditional oil lamp to inaugurate the meeting. The meeting had lasted for about three hours and it was reported that when she came out to leave several SLFP Provincial Councillors and Pradeshiya Sabha members levelled criticism at her.
SLFP Parliamentarians Jayarathna Herath, Salinda Dissanayake, T.B. Ekanayake, S.B. Navina, Anura Priadarshana Yapa, Johnston Fernando, Shantha Bandara, Nilwala Wijesinghe and Neranjan Wickremesighe also participated in yesterday’s meeting.
