Chandrapala Liyanage has been appointed the Additional Director General of the Department of Government Information with immediate effect. Liyanage who was the Presidential Media Coordinating Director from 2005 to 2008 has been appointed to this new post by the Public Service Commission on the advice of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Liyanage who first joined the Government Information Department as an Information Officer in 1994, later held the posts of Media Coordinating officer in the Ministries of Trade and Commerce, Posts and Telecommunications, Mass Media, Vocational Training and in the Presidential Secretariat up to year 2004.
He also worked as the Press Secretary to Prime Minister when President Rajapaksa was the Prime Minister, and later elevated to the position of Presidential Media Coordinating Director when he became the President in 2005.
Liyanage had the privilege of working as the Minister Councillor in the Sri Lankan Embassy in Italy for a period of three years since 2008, where he mustered the support of the Sri Lankan community living in the Europe against the LTTE campaign.
Chandrpala Liyanage, a product of Galle Richmond College and Neluwa national School is a Graduate of the Ruhuna University and he has keen interest s in Political, mass media and public relation activities.
