Employees of the State power sector ended their continuous strike yesterday afternoon, following discussions with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) officials.
Executive committee members of the CEB Joint Trade Union Alliance, Ranjan Jayalal said the strike was called off following the favorable resolutions granted by the authorities to the employees’ demands.
Yesterday Colombo Chief District Judge Dhammika Ganepola declined a request from electricity authorities to ban the strike by the employees.
The Judge rejected the appeal by the CEB for an injunction on the strike stating that the facts cited by the plaintiff party were inadequate.
CEB joint Trade Union Alliance held a one and half hour long protest demonstration in the afternoon before the CEB headquarters launching the strike to demand the reinstatement of 120 workers who were terminated for taking part in the token strike previously and a pay hike similar to the one granted to the engineers and the executives.
