Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman A. Wijepala yesterday said he would step down from his post, taking the responsibility for three islandwide power cuts in six months.
The move came after yet another countrywide power cut was experienced on Sunday in the midst of a heat wave. Power Ministry Secretary Dr. Suren Batagoda said the cause of blackout experienced at around 2:15 p.m. could be due to the tripping of a substation in Biyagama. Engineers from the CEB worked extensively to restore power around the country by 6 p.m.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had earlier called for a full report on the power failures.
