British Prime Minister David Cameron said he would ask ‘serious questions’ from President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he arrives in Colombo for CHOGM this week, after he watched a screening of the controversial ‘No Fire Zone’ documentary about the final days of the war.
Cameron tweeted yesterday that ‘No Fire Zone’ had been a ‘chilling documentary’.
“Been watching @NoFireZoneMovie. Chilling documentary on Sri Lanka. Serious questions to put to @PresRajapaksa next week,” the British Prime Minister said on his official Twitter account.
However, last week senior Government officials said there would be no space for bilateral issues to be raised during the summit, in response to statements by Cameron and others about raising questions on Sri Lanka’s human rights record while in Colombo.
Cameron has promised to “talk tough” to Colombo on human rights and democracy when he attends CHOGM, even as opposition mounts over his decision not to boycott the summit.
