CA permits SLMC and GMOA to intervene in Ayurveda doctors’ Writ

 The Court of Appeal yesterday (27) permitted two applications for intervention filed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) into the Writ application of Ayurveda Doctors seeking that they be permitted to use and dispense several allopathic medicines and devices.

The Bench comprised Justices S.Sriskandarajah (President) and Deepali Wijesundera.

The original Petitioner Ayurvedic Doctors Washington Nanayakkara and Shrinath Senerath Paranayapa in their Writ application are seeking an order from the Court to direct the Minister of Indigenous Medicine to permit Ayurveda Medical Practitioners the use and dispensation of several allopathic medicines and the use of several allopathic devices used for the performance of several procedures.

The matter is fixed to be mentioned on July 16 for filing of Objections by the Intervenients to the main Application.

Petitioners cited Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadda, Ministry Secretary, Ayurveda Commissioner, Secretary of Healthcare and Nutrition and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and the Attorney General as Respondens.

Faisz Musthapah PC with Ronald Perera appeared for the Petitioners. Additional Solicitor General Y.J.W.Wijethilake appeared for the Ministers. Shibly Aziz with Anita Perera instructed by Julius and Creasy appeared for SLMC while Sanjeeva Jayawardena with Sandamali Chandrasekera instructed by Amarasuriya Associates appeared for GMOA.
