Commenting on the report, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Patricia A. Butenis said, “Trafficking in Persons is a problem affecting virtually every country in the world, including the United States and Sri Lanka.
The Government of Sri Lanka has made progress in combating trafficking, and the government’s efforts have resulted in Sri Lanka’s promotion to Tier II in the annual Trafficking in Persons Report issued for all countries by the U.S. Department of State. Much remains to be done in Sri Lanka to reduce trafficking in persons, and we look forward to working with the Government of Sri Lanka and civil society organisations to make further progress in the coming year.”
