A man who had allegedly stolen a gold chain weighing 18.5 sovereigns belonging to the Chairman of the Building Material Corporation was arrested and produced in Court by Colpetty Police.
When the suspect, the Building Material Corporation Chairman’s driver, was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, the suspect was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.100,000.
Making a complaint with the Colpetty Police, Building Material Corporation Chairman Pawara Dassa-nayake had informed that a gold chain valued at Rs. 900,000 had been stolen and further alleged that he suspected it had been stolen by his driver. Investigations had revealed that the suspect Ajith Kumarasiri of Delgahamada had stolen and mortgaged the gold chain at a jewelry shop in Colombo 11. Meanwhile, Magistrate Wijeratne ordered that the gold chain concerned be released to the complainant on a bond.
