A fire was discovered in one of British Council’s Teaching Centre classrooms in Colombo at 7.45a.m. yesterday before classes had begun however, staff managed an orderly evacuation of the premises.
The fire brigade attended to the incident promptly and the fire was extinguished, with no one hurt or injured. Damage is currently being assessed and the cause of the fire, thus the British Council is compelled to close its operations today. Library and examination services are expected to resume on Wednesday after the holiday break. In a statement released by the British Council, the organisation said, “We are very grateful to the Sri Lanka Fire Department for their professional response to the situation.”
