The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) says the whole bribery issue has now become a joke, with files being taken to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on a daily basis.
SLFP MP and former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, speaking to reporters in Kandy, said that even the SLFP would be taking files against the current Government to the Bribery or Corruption Commission.
Aluthgamage, who has a bribery case filed against him at the commission and whose passport has been impounded, said that if there was an allegation against someone, then an investigation should be conducted and that person should be taken to court.
The former Minister said that exposing the names in the media based on allegations over bribery or corruption and impounding the passport was not the way forward.“This has now become a tele-drama of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna,” he added.
Aluthgamage said that at the next Parliament elections the SLFP hopes to have SLFP Chairman President Maithripala Sirisena and former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chandrika Kumaratunga on one stage.
He said the SLFP could not be allowed to split and so they would contest the elections with the support of all SLFP members and look to form an SLFP Government. Aluthgamage noted former President Rajapaksa still had a huge support base while current President Maithripala Sirisena had the support of the entire country. He said that Rajapaksa lost since Sirisena had the support of the Tamils and Muslims and that was now an accepted fact.
