Bread prices up

The price of a 450 gram-loaf of bread will be increased by one rupee with effect from midnight Wednesday, the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association Chairman N.K. Jayewardene said.

He said the decision to raise bread prices was taken due to the recent increase in Nation Building Tax (NBT) imposed by this year’s budget.

The new price of a 450 g loaf of bread would be Rs. 55.00, according to the Association.
