Book on defeat of terrorism by Admiral Karannagoda presented to President

The first copy of the book ‘Adishtana’ dealing with the task discharged by the Sri Lanka Navy during the humanitarian operation to rout the world’s deadliest terrorist organisation, the LTTE was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday.
The book ‘Adishtana’ has been authored by Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, who served as the Commander of the Navy in the operations against LTTE terrorists.

Detailed information on the challenges the Sri Lanka Navy had to confront in defeating terrorism and the role played by the Navy in achieving victory through the launch of new strategies in overcoming difficult situations are incorporated in the new book.
The launch of the book ‘Adishtana’ took place at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. Karannagoda presented the first copy of the book to the President. It was followed by the presentation of copies of the book to the distinguished guests who graced the occasion.
The book provides hitherto unknown information to the public and is of immense significance as the future generation could also be educated on the heroism of defeating terrorism in Sri Lanka. The keynote address at the launch of the book ‘Adishtana’ was delivered by Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga. Weeratunga said recalled that before becoming the Navy Commander, Admiral Karannagoda served as the Commander of the East. The President’s Secretary paid tribute to heroic actions of the Navy such as sinking of the floating armouries of the LTTE. Karannagoda had said he had full trust in the President and the Defence Secretary and they provided him with strength to embark on such a dangerous operation.
