UNP Leadership Council member and Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera yesterday slammed the hardline Bodu Bala Sena Group, saying the group was spreading hate rather than the dhamma, while purporting to be Buddhists.

“This group is bringing the philosophy of the Buddha to disrepute with their hate speeches,” Samaraweera said.
The UNP Legislator charged that the Government had been forced to enact an interrogation of the Bodu Bala Sena’s most controversial monk, Galagodaththe Gnanasara Thero due to pressure from Middle Eastern countries.
Samaraweera said that after the monk’s visa had been cancelled by the US Embassy in Colombo, Gnansara Thero had gone on record threatening America with his “aba saranayi” rhetoric. Sri Lankans should be grateful that the hardline monk was no longer permitted entry to the US, Samaraweera added.
