The Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa said that the country needs a disciplined and skilled force to face the future challenges of the new world. The Minister made these comments participating at a function held in Attanagalle yesterday.

The function was held in connection with the passing out parade of the Western Province Youth Corp held at the Youth Corp Grounds in Attanagalle.  The Minister said that the objective of the Youth Corp is to create a force that would face the future challenges unwaveringly to protect and promote the motherland.

A total of 852 Youth Corp members who received training at 6 Youth Corp Training Centres in the Western Province located at Bulathsinhala, Heiyantuduwa, Yakkala, Katunayake, Divulapitiya and Attanagalle passed out at this function.  The Minister received the salute of the passing out parade.

The best 12 Youth Corp male and female Rangers selected from the 6 Centres were presented with awards and certificates.

Speaking further at this function, the Minister said that when the country was liberated in 2009, what the President said was that the terrorism was over and now the task being faced by all is developing the country.  “From that day onwards all of us have dedicated to develop this country.  We are facing the challenge of developing our country in line with the developed countries in the world.  We need to develop our country as the Wonder Nation of Asia.  For this we need a disciplined skilled force, a force that could face the challenges of the new world.  It is with that objective the Youth Corps is being trained.”

The Minister Rajapaksa further added that the passing out Youth Corp members were capable of working in all the three languages, and pointed out that since Sri Lanka is one nation from the Point Dondra to Point Pedro, knowledge in both Sinhala and Tamil languages was needed.  (www.news.lk)
