Basil Rajapaksa meets members of Parliamentary League in Tokyo

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa during an official visit to Japan met with members of the Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League on Monday, 30 September, at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. The luncheon, hosted by Masahiko Komura, President of the Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League and Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party, was held in honour of the visiting Minister. Over 30 Japanese Parliamentary members attended the event and discussed matters of mutual interest with the Minister. Masahiko Komura during the luncheon conveyed his deepest appreciation to the Minister for the generous gift of two elephants to the Tokuyama Zoo in Yamaguchi prefecture. The two elephants, named Namali and Milinda, are currently at the Tokuyama Zoo in Yamaguchi prefecture. Many Japanese visitors to the zoo are enjoying the new arrival of elephants from Sri Lanka. Rakapaksa extended his gratitude to the Government of Japan for the assistance rendered to Sri Lanka over the years and wished the members of the league continued progress in all their endeavours. Secretary General of the Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League Yuko Obuchi, Senior Vice Minister of Finance and Member of the House of Representatives, was also present at the event.
