Basil declares open Giriulla-Diyagampala new bridge

Giriulla-Diyagampala new bridge constructed at a cost of 130 million was declared open on Thursday (17) by Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa. This bridge was constructed in place of the old bridge No. 32/2 on the Negombo-Giriulla Road with financial aid from the French Government and construction was carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Highways, Port and Shipping and Road Development Authority. The new bridge is 70 feet long and 30 feet wide. Peoples’ Representatives including Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Deputy Minister of Disaster Management Dulip Wijesekera, Member of Parliament Sudharshini Fernandopulle, Western Provincial Minister Nimal Lansa and French Ambassador Monchavu Jean Paul, along with a host of state officials including the Secretary to the Ministry of Highways were among the large gathering of well wishers on this occasion.
