Former Economic Affairs Minister Basil Rajapaksa has blamed the United States and India for the defeat by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) at the last Presidential elections.

Speaking to the BBC Sinhala service, Rajapaksa, the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the US had even noted at the end of last year that the change of Government in January last year was a victory for the US. “They took efforts for a regime change in Sri Lanka and they had openly spoken about that, ” he said.

Basil Rajapaksa noted that even UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had said that the best thing which happened last year was the regime change in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
