Ukrainian captain of the controversial Avant Garde vessel Gennady Gavrilov, was further remanded till 18 July by Galle Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura yesterday.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested him on 23 June at the Galle Harbour on the allegation of illegally importing firearms to Sri Lanka and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
His lawyers argued remanding him was unfair as the ship was taken into custody beyond Sri Lankan waters and the firearms have been already identified as belonging to Rakna Lanka. They requested the Magistrate to release him on bail.
Refusing the request the Magistrate ordered to re-remand the suspect until the CID investigations are concluded.
