Tge Sri Lanka Navy, in accordance with naval traditions, welcomed an Australian naval ship which arrived on Friday at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit.
The Australian Naval Ship HMAS Melbourne (FFG 05) arrived at the port of Colombo on 21 February on a goodwill visit, the Navy said.
The Commanding Officer of the Australian ship, Commander BJ Schligel paid a courtesy call on Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe at the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Colombo. They have held cordial discussions and exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill.
The 138-metre long HMAS Melbourne is an Adelaide Class guided missile frigate (FFG) with a displacement of 4,040 tons. The ship carries a complement of 26 officers and 195 sailors.
The ship’s crew is scheduled to participate in a series of programs arranged by the Sri Lanka Navy to enhance the friendly relations between the two Navies during the ship’s stay in Sri Lanka.
