The Australian government has extended the proscription on the LTTE for another three years. This was announced by Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. She said that this step has been taken to prevent the raising of funds for terrorist activities and in compliance with the UN Security Council convention. In addition to the LTTE, Australia has proscribed Al Sahab and I.R.A terrorist organisations as well. Australia has decided to maintain the LTTE as a proscribed organisation after the federal government updated its listing of terror groups and their financiers. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop also stated that the threat of terrorism to Australia is real and enduring. She added that the Australian government remains determined to combat and prevent terrorism in all its forms.
