President Maithripala Sirisena met Myanmar Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday on the sidelines of the BRICS Outreach Summit.
The President commended the efforts of Aung San Suu Kyi, who led a long struggle for democracy in her country. He also invited her for an official visit to Sri Lanka.
Aung San Suu Kyi, who commended the democratic transformation which occurred in Sri Lanka, expressed her satisfaction over the political journey of President Sirisena. She also stated that she would act to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
She added that Myanmar would offer a baby elephant to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
