Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, yesterday accused United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) member Susil Premajayantha of creating a nominations list without consulting the party leadership.
Speaking to the chief prelate of the Malwatte Chapter the Ven. Thibbotuwawa Sri Sumangala thera, Ranatunga said that the UPFA nominations list for the Gampaha District had initially been drafted with the participation of former President and SLFP member Chandrika Kumaratunga.
However he claimed that Premajayantha had amended the list without consulting others in order meet his own agenda.
Ranatunga said that there was a big difference between the originally proposed UPFA nominations list for Gampaha and the one produced by Premajayantha, and this was one of the reasons he decided to join the United National Front for Good Governance.
A group of SLFP members including Ranatunga are contesting the August 17 Parliament election under the elephant symbol. (Colombo Gazette)
