The Voice Against Corruption organisation in Sri Lanka has written to President Maithripala Sirisena seeking the appointment of a Presidential committee to launch a fresh probe into the alleged irregularities committed in a recent Treasury Bond auction by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Convener of the organisation, Wasantha Samarasinghe said there were doubts over the final determination of the committee that was appointed by the Prime Minister to probe the issue since several of the members in the committee were supporters of the United National Party (UNP).
The Opposition is also expected to demand a fresh probe when Parliament meets today, reports said.
The Prime Ministerial committee cleared the Central Bank Governor who was accused of insider trading in the Bond auction, stating the Governor was not “directly” involved in any irregularity.
Samarasinghe added that there were doubts on the bids submitted by Perpetual Treasuries as it showed a sense of inside information received from the bank.
“We need a fresh probe into the Bond issue and we want the President to intervene in the matter,” he added. (colombopage)
