Ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian from the Wanni District Hunais Farook has joined the Opposition United National Party (UNP).
The UPFA MP crossed over to the Opposition at the UNP meeting held yesterday at Sirikotha to welcome the common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena, party sources said. Farook represents the Wanni multi-member electoral district and was a member of the United People’s Freedom Alliance and was elected in the 2010 Parliamentary elections.
Last week, UPFA MP Perumal Rajadurai, who represents the Nuwara Eliya District, joined the Opposition party following Sirisena’s announcement that he is challenging the incumbent president at the presidential election.
Rajadurai is a member of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress led by Minister Arumugam Thondaman and a leading lawyer.
