Amendments to Notaries Ordinance

By Chamodi Gunawaradana To deal with potential fraud in land deals, the Ministry of Justice has decided to introduce amendments to the Notaries Ordinance. The Ministry of Justice made a statement yesterday saying that they would bring forward amendments to the Notaries Ordinance such as using fingerprinting on documents in addition to a general signature. They expect that these amendments will add a layer of honesty and security to deals. Minister of Justice Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has already handed over a proposal with the amendments to the Ministry of Public Administration and Democratic Governance seeking their approval. Following this process the proposal will be presented in Parliament.
