Klimke and Annen are among the 17 Parliamentarians appointed for the German-South Asia Parliamentary Group, which looks after Germany’s interests in Sri Lanka (along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan).
Since 2002, Klimke has been a member of Deutscher Bundestag, as the spokesperson of the Committee of Economic Cooperation and Development and a member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs.
Annen is a foreign policy leader in the SPD and the spokesperson for Foreign Affairs of the SPD Parliamentary Group since 2014. He is also a permanent member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and a substitute member of the Committee on Economics and Energy.
During the discussions Ambassador Amunugama highlighted socio-political, economic and trade developments in Sri Lanka after the defeat of LTTE terrorism in 2009. He also conveyed Sri Lanka’s interest in expanding relations with Germany in the fields of trade and investment.
While appreciating initiatives taken by the Ambassador in enhancing bilateral relations, both Parliamentarians agreed to support Sri Lanka in its future endeavours.
