All provincial roads will be carpeted before 2012 promises Basil

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has promised that all provincial roads will be carpeted by before 2012 and one third by end this year.

He gave this assurance addressing the meeting held to inaugurate the carpeting of Devsirigama Road in the Devinuwara electorate of Matara District. Ministry of Economic development will provide Rs.42.6 million for the carpeting of this road. Southern Development Authority is assigned the construction work. More than 15,000 people who use this road for their day to day work will benefit from this project.

The Minister further said that the government will provide rural people with all the facilities affordable in the cities. Economic Development Ministry has allocated Rs. 500 million to develop provincial roads covering a length of 207 k.m. in 7 electorates of the Matara District.

Minister of Youth Affairs Dallas Alahapperuma; Provincial Road Development Minister Chandima Rasaputra; Provincial Council Member Kanchana Wijesekara and other guests were present.
