All political parties have collectively agreed to gather within another three weeks to discuss more about the establishment of a suitable war crimes investigation mechanism.
The first session of the discussion, which was headed by President Maithripala Sirisena, was held on Thursday at the President Secretariat with 80 representatives from 23 political parties.
The President decided to reconvene the meeting to consider the requests made by parties’ representatives to continue the discussion in order to take a collective decision over the mechanism.
President Sirisena has asked all parties to submit their written proposals and opinions about the suitable mechanism within two weeks.
