The Government yesterday said that all Commonwealth member states except Canada and India have confirmed the participation of their heads of government at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOOGM) in November in Colombo.
Addressing a media briefing at the ruling party headquarters today, Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris dismissed the reports that India has set conditions for it to participate in the summit. The Minister said that the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has not presented any condition to participate at the CHOGM. Canada and India have assured sending their delegations but to what level of participation is not certain yet, the Minister added.
Prof. Peiris responding to the media queries said the President is not expected to meet the Indian PM when the President attends the UN General Assembly in New York which began yesterday.
