Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said over the weekend that steps are being taken to provide a better life for the youth through a massive development program from Point Pedro in the North to Hambantota in the South.
The accelerated development program has already been commenced from the Northern Province with the construction of an airport in Kilinochchi and the development of the Kankasanthurai harbour, the Premier said.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made these remarks while participating as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of several new buildings constructed at the Kilinochchi Campus of the Jaffna University in Araviar Nagar on Saturday. The Prime Minister, who arrived at the Kilinochchi premises of the Jaffna University, was warmly welcomed according to traditional Hindu cultural practices.
The Prime Minister opened lecture halls, auditoriums, student hostels and the teachers’ hostel built at a cost of Rs. 5 billion in the Kilinochchi Campus.
Addressing the gathering, the Premier said the period when Sri Lanka was divided and fought was over, and since the development era has begun now, everyone should unite and line up to win the development battle.
He said that the present Government would take all necessary measures to uplift standards and quality of the universities. (Colombopage)
