Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said he would work to build a new political alliance, including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) as well as other political parties, which would function as the Joint Opposition.
“We have already commenced the discussion with political parties to form a new political alliance,” Mahinda Rajapaksa told reporters at the book launch held at the Mahaweli Centre.
He said a Committee had been appointed to expedite the process of forming a new political alliance. He noted the party’s structure and Constitution has also been discussed.
“We are already working as an alliance even at the moment and now Sri Lanka Freedom Party has also joined with us,” he added.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to provide legal actions for those who have been subject to political revenge, injustice, illegal activities and corruptions from the year 2015.
Issuing a statement yesterday, Rajapaksa stated that services would be provided free of charge for the general public who have been subject to political revenge and ill-treatments due to political motives.
“The free legal consultation service will be commenced from 6 February. The service will be available on every Wednesday from 1.00pm to 5.00pm at the Opposition Leader’s office,” it said.
The Opposition Leader further stated that those who wish to provide information with regard to corruption cases in Government institutions could also provide such information at the premises.
