In a letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (28) the National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa presented a series of proposals to prevent the country from falling victim to a ‘Disaster Imperialist Mission’.
According to Weerawansa, an imperialist plot has been hatched to ensure the collapse of the Sri Lankan state through the current economic and political crisis in the country. Weerawansa in his letter presented the newly appointed President with two choices. “It is either we fall trap to the disaster imperialist mission that has been launched thereby becoming another Haiti or agree upon a social contract to resolve the current crisis,” he said.
Weerawansa also said his party will take the lead to provide the necessary guidance while casting aside all petty political debates and past clashes if the President chooses the second option proposed by the NFF. “We consider it as a responsibility of the nationalist forces in the country,” he said. According to Weerawansa, the series of proposals presented by them should be included in any future common minimum program. As part of its twelve key proposals, the NFF has suggested the establishment of a parliamentary executive committee, the holding of an all-party conference to chart a road map for the country’s recovery, the forming of a consensus government to put the road map into action as well as the setting up of a public assembly consisting of those involved in the citizen’s struggle.
