Western Province Governor A.J.M. Muzammil urges elders to look after their children well and help them become useful members of the society. The Governor was speaking at the Children’s Day celebrations organised by the Western Provincial Council at Nelum Pokuna on Thursday.
The guests present included Western Province Council Chief Secretary Pradeep Yasaratne and Senior Advisor to the President Esala Weerakone.
Speaking further, Muzammil stressed that children are invaluable assets in a society and it is also the responsibility of the state to give them the needed recognition and security for them to grow up in a conducive environment.
Congratulating the contributions made by various organisations to encourage children in various fields of life, the Governor said that these children will be the future generation who will take up positions in various walks of life. “It’s our prime duty to look after them well with love and offer them the best facilities and services for them to grow up as useful citizens in the society,” the Governor said, urging the members of the audience to encourage this important segment in the society for a better Sri Lanka.
Children from all faiths in the Western Province, entertained the audience with a variety show, depicting the theme that everyone should live happily in ‘one’ country.
