The United Nations Association of Sri Lanka organised its National Observance of the 72nd United Nations Day in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations in Sri Lanka at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, Colombo recently.
Brigadier Granville Elapata was the Chief Guest while Archaeologist Dr. Siran Deraniyagala and United Nation Information Officer Kumari Wickramasinghe also addressed the gathering.
UNA also presented the Volunteer of the Year award to UNA Deputy Executive Chairman Dr. M.M.M. Rushanudeen, as well as appreciation awards to UNA’s Special Life Members M.S.M. Shameel, M.M. Manasir, Kamal Idroos and B.M. Vethmanikam that were presented by Deputy Ambassador of Netherlands in Sri Lanka Eva Van Woersem and WHO Public Health Administrator Dr. Olivia Corazon.
Dr. Siran Deraniyagala, Mujeebur Rahuman MP and Zahira College Principal Trizviiy Marikkar were also present.
Students from OKI International School, the Colombo University Media Unit and Colombo Toastmasters Gravel Club presented various cultural events at this ceremony.
