UNP Colombo District MP M.S. Marikkar handed in a private Members’ Motion to Parliament yesterday, seeking the death penalty for persons found guilty of carrying out acts of terrorism, as well as those supporting terrorist groups. The Motion was handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament yesterday.

The Motion states that persons who are found guilty of being members of a terrorist group or of supporting their activities, either directly or indirectly, by a court of law, should be given the death penalty. This should apply to those who are involved with international terrorist groups as well as local groups, the Motion states.
