Two remanded for assaulting group of journalists

The Mahara Acting Magistrate Wasantha Ramanayake yesterday remanded two suspects arrested for assaulting a group of journalists who were covering an incident in Kadawatha.

The magistrate remanded the suspects identified as MV Hashan Tharuka and Vajira Lasantha Keppetipola until 12 December. A group of journalists lodged a complaint at Kadawatha Police on Tuesday regarding the incident of obstructing and assaulting local journalists when they went to inquire from a petrol station in Kadawatha about an alleged contamination of water with petrol.

The two suspects were arrested regarding the incident and produced before the Mahara Magistrate Court yesterday.
