Twitter, the popular microblogging and social networking service, has suspended the account managed by MP Namal Rajapaksa’s Media Unit (@Media_NR) since Saturday (12 October), though the reason for it hasn’t been made public yet.
Opposition Leader’s Office Information and Digital Communications Director G. Kassilingham informed through his Twitter account (@Kassilingham) that the account controlled by the MP’s Media Unit has been temporarily suspended.
“We are working hard to resolve this. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience,” Kassilingham said Saturday.
Twitter says it suspends accounts that violate Twitter Rules in order to maintain a safe environment for users of its network.
Some of the reasons for suspension of Twitter accounts include spamming, account security risks, or abusive Tweets or behaviour.
Twitter has measures that can be taken to reactive an account that has been suspended.
