Total COVID-19 count exceeds 49,000

  • 584 persons test positive, clusters expand to 49,533
  • 6,672 under medical care, recoveries rise to 42,621
  • Western Province patient count rises to 32,926

The total number of COVID-19 patients detected in the island yesterday exceeded 49,000 with the detection of 584 patients.

According to the Department of Government Information, 576 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and eight persons from the Prisons cluster were among the patients detected yesterday.

The triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, and Prisons have increased to 45,770 patients, while the country’s total patient count has risen to 49,533.

This includes 6,672 active patients, of which 575 are at the Punani Treatment Centre, 439 are at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, and 398 are at the Giriulla Treatment Centre.

Hospitals are also monitoring 793 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the total COVID-19 recoveries rose to 42,621 and 52 persons from the Kandakadu Treatment Centre, 44 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, 44 persons from the Hikkaduwa Treatment Centre, 32 persons from the Rambukkana Treatment Centre, and 32 persons from the Hambanthota District General Hospital are among those discharged yesterday.

According to the district breakdown of COVID-19 patients published by the Epidemiology Unit, 19,481 patients from Colombo, 10,121 patients from Gampaha, and 3,324 patients from Kalutara bring the total number of patients detected in the Western Province to 32,926. The district distribution also includes 1,721 patients from Kandy, 882 patients from Ratnapura, 848 patients from Kalmunai, and 826 patients from Galle.

Of the 569 COVID-19 patients detected on Monday, 110 were from Kalutara, 88 were from Gampaha, 52 were from Kegalle, 37 were from Colombo, and 33 were from Ratnapura.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) yesterday stated that 90 Watte in the Gamngabada Grama Niladhari Division of the Peliyagoda Police Division will be isolated until further notice.
