Four persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,838.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, this includes over 960 imported cases, with 936 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 32 foreigners testing positive in the country. Of the local cases, 950 cases are Navy personnel and their close contacts, while 603 are from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and their close contacts.
Of the cases identified yesterday, two are returnees from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one is a returnee from Chennai, and one is an inmate of the Senapura Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre. The day before, six returnees from abroad tested positive for COVID-19.
There are currently 290 persons under medical care, of which 142 are at the Kandakadu Treatment Centre, 45 are at the Welikande Base Hospital, 42 are at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, and 20 are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID).
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 12 persons are receiving treatment at the Panagoda Army Hospital, 10 at the Iranawila Hospital, 10 at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, and five at Colombo East Base Hospital.
The active cases include one foreigner, who is currently at the NIID.
There are also 68 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation at various hospitals, including 25 at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital, 14 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, and five at the Welisara Chest Hospital.
In addition to this, 13 persons were discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday having recovered from COVID-19. This includes six from the Iranawila Hospital, four from the Welikande Base Hospital, and three from the NIID.
This has increased the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 2,537, and the Health Promotion Bureau adds that the country’s recovery rate is currently 89.52%, while its fatality rate is 0.39%. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the country remains at 11. The Health Promotion Bureau also states that 166,737 PCR tests have been carried out thus far, including 1,395 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Itukama COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund has reached an account balance of Rs. 1,549 million. According to the Presidential Secretariat, the fund will be used for several reasons, including to meet any immediate funding requirements of the Director General of Health Services to meet all COVID-19 expenditure related to healthcare facilities, medication, testing equipment, and capacity.
