With joint efforts of all relevant authorities from both China and Sri Lanka, the third batch of China’s food assistance, 500 metric tonnes of rice, arrived in Colombo on 16 July.
It is under China’s 500 million RMB emergency humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. Up to now, the first three batches of rice, totalling 2,500 metric tonnes, has arrived in Colombo. Rice donated by China will support the School Meal Program at the request of the Sri Lankan Government to provide daily nutritious meals to the 1.1 million children in 7,900 schools across the country for at least six months. Children are the future of a nation, and they are also the vulnerable populations who suffer the most and should be focused on.
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka will continue to work closely with both Beijing and Colombo to provide much-needed livelihood assistance for Sri Lankan people.
