Health authorities yesterday confirmed 10 COVID-19 deaths, which brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 445.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, two were deaths that occurred yesterday and the remaining eight occurred between 14 February and 20 February.
A 74-year old individual from Kolonnawa and an 82-year-old individual from Wellawatte passed away yesterday at the Homagama Base Hospital. The former died of COVID pneumonia and exacerbated liver disease while the latter died of COVID pneumonia.
On 20 February, a 68-year-old individual from Guruthalawa died of COVID pneumonia, heart disease, kidney disease, and acute diabetes while receiving treatment at the Colombo East Base Hospital.
An individual from Ratmalana also passed away on 20 February while receiving treatment at the Pimbura Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia. The individual was 90-years-old.
The same day, a 72-year-old individual from Hatton died of COVID-19, acute diabetes, high blood pressure, and brain cell death while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
Health authorities confirmed that a 65-year-old individual from Bibila died on 19 February while receiving treatment at the Kandy National Hospital of haemorrhagic stroke and a respiratory tract infection associated with COVID-19.
The same day, a 68-year-old individual from Pitakotte died of acute asthma associated with COVID-19 and acute diabetes while being admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
On 16 February, a 58-year-old individual from Kalutara died of blood poisoning associated with COVID-19, heart disease, and acute diabetes at home.
An individual from Waskaduwa also died at home on 16 February. The cause of death is blood poisoning associated with COVID-19 and a heart attack caused by high blood pressure. The individual was 72-years-old.
An 83-year-old individual from Kudagalgamuwa on 14 February died of COVID-19, blood poisoning from a wound, and kidney disease while receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
