  • Swiss Embassy must disclose where ‘due process’ was not followed in employee’s case: BASL

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) yesterday took issue with the Swiss Embassy in Colombo for issuing a statement on 30 December 2019 in which it questioned if the “due process” had been followed by the Lankan authorities when dealing with the case involving its local employee.

“We request the makers of this statement to immediately disclose the areas of due process that has not been followed in this instance. Without mentioning such specific instances, to issue a bare statement as has been done in this instance, amounts to a serious undermining of the Judiciary and the other law enforcement agencies in Sri Lanka which are more than equipped to follow the accepted norms,” BASL said in a statement.

BASL also requested the Embassy to refrain from making such baseless statements and, if there are such concerns, to bring them before the relevant forums without making ad hoc and inconsistent statements which undermine the legal system and the Judiciary.
